Farmington — TMA

Early June 2025 · Farmington TU Chapter & USGS Gauge 01186500

Water temperatures in the TMA have been running 56–62°F — prime conditions for both trout activity and hatching insects. The Sulphur hatch continues to be the headline event: fish are rising from 7:30 PM through dark on #16–18 Comparaduns and CDC Emergers, with the best action in the flats between People's State Forest and the Alder Brook confluence.

Isonychia nymphs are beginning their late-spring migration toward shore rocks — a size #12 soft-hackle or beadhead Zug Bug swung through the tailouts has been fooling big fish during midday hours when surface activity is slow. Morning midge feeders remain active in slower pools; fish them on #22–24 Zebra Midges with 6X tippet.

Flow at the USGS Tariffville gauge is running 180–220 cfs — ideal wading levels throughout most of the TMA. Water clarity is excellent at 4–5 feet. Expect the Sulphur spinner fall to peak by mid-June, and watch for sporadic Light Cahill activity in the second and third weeks of the month.
